The 9th Underwriters Laboratories-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women

The 9th Underwriters Laboratories-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women

Due to great interest in the 9th Underwriters Laboratories-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women, we would like to announce that the deadline to submit applications to participate in the competition is now extended to 30 April 2023. We encourage you and/or interested parties within your network to submit an application as soon as possible before the new closing date. This year, the Prize is once again looking to award two ASEAN-based, talented women in two categories, mid-career (45 years old or younger) and more senior female professionals (46 years old or older) in applied science with recognition and monetary awards for their academic and professional achievements.
The Prize is a regionwide competition in science, technology and innovation, established and implemented by the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI), in partnership with the U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and UL Research Institutes.
The Prize theme for the 2023 competition is ‘Electrification,’ which was chosen as this year’s theme of the 2023 Underwriters Laboratories-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women to showcase women researchers who have developed innovative machines or systems using electrical power. Electrification aims to replace fossil fuel technologies (coal, oil, and natural gas) with clean energy technologies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the transportation, building, and industrial sectors. Addressing emissions from these sectors, which account for the majority of greenhouse gas emissions, is critical to decarbonizing the economy in the ASEAN region and, ultimately, mitigating the impacts of climate change globally.
For two promising ASEAN female professionals in applied science at mid-career and senior levels, the Science Prize will provide recognition and monetary awards for their academic and professional achievements. The selection committee will award $12,500 to both winners in the mid-career scientist category and the senior scientist category who demonstrate the best application of scientific research to this year’s theme of ‘Electrification.’ The two runner-up finalists will also receive a $5,000 award each.
We would like to encourage more women to apply, especially with the extended deadline, and we thank you in advance for your assistance in promoting the Underwriters Laboratories-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize 2023 for Women through your channels.
